About The FIRST Team

TFT originally came into existence in the fall of 2005. It was my senior year and I needed something to hold me over so I didn't die of excitement for the coming season of FIRST.

It was posted on the internet twice before this particular incarnation. One was rather short-lived, but one was doing rather well up until the point where I had to switch schools, move, etc, and I just didn't keep up with it.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is a real organization that countless teams across the globe participate in every year. Each team has a given number and a name they gave themselves. Names and numbers are used interchangeably; FRC teams are known by both. While this team is purely fictional, there was once a team 1337, but they were only around for a short time and numbers are never re-used.

FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.

About the artist

TFT is written and drawn by Sandy Church. Like I mentioned, I started TFT in the fall of my senior year of high school. TFT is now over three years old. I created more on and off over this time, so there aren't as many pages as you would expect after so many years.

I graduated from team 11, MORT (Mount Olive Robotics Team) in 2006. I currently mentor team 2180, Zero Gravity. Both teams are from New Jersey, and I attend the County College of Morris (okay, so it's not exactly Harvard, but it's actually pretty good as far as county schools go! I promise). I'm a Digital Media Technology major with a focus in game graphics. I mentor Zero Gravity's 3d animation team (not an aspect of FIRST covered in the comic) and I absolutely love it.

I love drawing, painting, sculpting, making jewelry, sewing, animation, and kittens. And unicorns. And French Fry. In fact, it's a little scary how much I love French Fry. Try not to be creeped out.

If you ever feel like dropping me a line, you can do so hither. I love hearing anything you have to say. Also, I make lots of nerdy jewelry and things that can be seen and purchased here. Go buy a d20 keychain and impress your friends with your thriftiness.
